Built on Tundra’s chassis, the current Sequoia made its debut way back in 2008 and has held the American SUV market for quite some time now. Its last makeover was seen in 2015, and no such design changes have come up since. On these lines, the Japanese may soon roll out its new 2018 Toyota Sequoia.
2018 Toyota Sequoia Requires a Complete Update
Design section is where this full-sized SUV is missing out on currently. Compared to Nissan Armada or GMC Yukon, Sequoia does not have that appeal in the American market. Toyota has identified this and was seen testing its Sequoia 2018 completely camouflaged. First look gives the car a sleek appearance. Its nose has been dropped to quite an extent, and its roofline is smoother this time.
The front fascia is seen sporting a new two-bar grille structure, symmetrically placed this time. It may retain its chrome finish. The front bumper is entirely modified with fog lights placed sharply at its corners. Both headlights and taillights have been reduced in size and placed in a different manner.
With modifications made to its exteriors, expect its inner room to improve as well. Wheelbase may be improved from 122 inches, and overall length may be well over 205 inches. This will see 2018 Toyota Sequoia provide a cargo volume of nearly 19 cubic feet. Rear seats will have 60/40 split features which may be folded to provide almost 120 cubic feet of space.
Height may be reduced from 74.6 inches while width may be enhanced to 80 inches. This will give Toyota Sequoia 2018 more cabin space. Driver seats will be 8-way power adjustable and will have heating features as standard. Steering will be telescopic and will come with controls for a presumably tech-rich in-cabin.
Powertrain Borrowed from the new Tundra
2018 Toyota Sequoia may house the updated version of Toyota’s V6 or V8 engine. There are speculations about it coming with 5-liter Cummins diesel engine, same as the new Toyota Tundra. If this is true, Sequoia may deliver a power output of almost up to 300 HP and a torque output of 500 lb-ft. An 8-speed automatic transmission may be mated to its engine.
2018 Sequoia TRD Engine Specs
With greater torque figures, expect 2018 Sequoia TRD to reach from 0 to 60 mph in less than 6.7 seconds. It will be equipped with the 5.7-l i-Force V8 engine and 4×2 and 4×4 drive. Top speed may, however, remain at 115 mph. A new engine may see its EPA improve. Figures are likely to be more than 13 mpg in city and 17 mpg on highways.
Safety System in 2018 Sequoia
This will include all the regulars from the Japanese automaker. Expect an advanced system of airbags with passenger sensing technology. Also, 2018 Toyota Sequoia may sport daytime running lights as standard. It may also come with:
- Traction control system combined with tire pressure monitoring system.
- Blind spot monitoring system.
- Electronic braking system with Brake Assist.
- Smart stop system integrated with adaptive cruise control.
- Electronic Vehicle Stability Control.
This vehicle looks much better on paper and as to how it will perform on the road is something worth a watch.
Price and Release Date
Price may vary in the range of $45,000 to $61,000. Release date may be towards late 2018. With stiff competition already existing in the SUV market, Toyota is expected to come with some innovative changes.
