Since its inception in 1966, Toyota has already so over 40 million units of its compact sedans named Corolla. Already into its 11th generation; this is the Japanese automaker’s most popular sedans. Although no reports are available of Toyota electrifying its Corolla, the company has revealed news about the launch of its new 2018 Toyota Corolla.
2018 Toyota Corolla Design and Modifications
The front fascia of 2018 Toyota Corolla is expected to receive some modifications. The grilles will continue to be placed on its front bumper and may see a horizontal bar design this time. Fog lights will be LED and placed vertically on either side of the bumper. Headlights may be elongated a bit to provide that perfect V-shaped front face.
17-inch alloy wheels will be fitted this time around with a 5-spoke chrome design. Wider dimensions will improve surface grip and give this sedan some extra muscles around the wheel arches. LED indicators will be placed on its side mirrors. A distinct body line is seen along its sides running all the way to its taillights.
Toyota is reported to have placed premium quality materials on its dash with contrasting stitching. Higher-end trims of 2018 Toyota Corolla will come with a 4.2-inch infotainment display. Bucket-shaped front driver seat has been used along with 6-way power adjustable features. Front passenger seat will be 4-way adjustable. Both will have heating features.
Rear seats will be 60/40 folding enhancing cargo space as per needs. Instrument cluster may be replaced with an LCD screen having sync with the sedan’s speedometer, tachometer, odometer and other such sensors. A 6-speaker audio system is likely to be placed.
No changes in this section for the new 2018 Toyota Corolla. It may continue to house the 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine capable of producing an output power of 132 HP and a torque of 128 lb-ft. This will be mated to 6-speed manual; however, an automatic gearbox will be available as an option.
The powertrain will be making this sedan reach a maximum speed of around 111 mph. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph will take place in less than 10.5 seconds whereas 100 mph can be reached in 24 seconds. Toyota takes pride when it comes to Corolla’s EPA. A rating of 29 mpg in city and 37 mpg on highways can be expected.
Corolla Safety Features
To be sold as a family sedan, Toyota will maintain its top quality safety features in this new Corolla. The car will continue to boast its adaptive cruise control, electronic braking system and airbag occupancy sensor as standard. Apart from this, Toyota promises:
- It’s Star Safety System with advanced traction control and auto brake system.
- Tire pressure monitoring system.
- Front and rear curtain airbags.
- Rear view camera with park assist system.
Price and Competition
2018 Toyota Corolla is likely to come out with a price tag of around $16,000. An additional $8,000 will make Toyota install all other optional add-ons. In this range, the sedan will face stiff competition from the likes of Volkswagen Jetta, Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra.
Set to be released in around autumn 2017, the car is likely to see few improvements over its predecessors. Few specifications could be derived from the images recently released.
